How easy is it to find ourselves caught up in perfection these days? Especially with our CONSTANT access to celebrities, social media, and the internet–it’s almost 2nd nature to compare ourselves and aspire to have a “perfect life”. (Since it obviously seems like everyone else already has their shit together…) But come on. Is that reality?
Believe it or not, behind each Instagram post, or trendy pin on Pinterest, every single one of us has some sort of trial in life. We’re honestly setting ourselves up for disappointment by assuming we are the only ones struggling. It breaks my heart, because it seems to be engraved in our minds (and society) to constantly look good, act proper, be the best, have no flaws, etc… Resulting in us losing ourselves amongst the chaos and pressure.
Instead of seeking to be relevant or liked, let’s seek to be compassionate, undeniable, full of integrity and humility. Seek to be the light, and the difference–not just one of the rest. Of course, it may be easier to sit back and not bother with it. But we will ultimately gain so much more from opening our hearts and being so completely our true selves, that everyone else feels safe to be themselves too.
I’ll leave you with this quote from the lovely Brene Brown: “Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we are supposed to be and embracing who we are.” I don’t know about you, but I’ll choose REAL over PERFECT any day of the week.
Until next time,
Stay original, darling!
