Wake up. Kick ass. Repeat.

Oh the infamous (sometimes daunting) activity that we’re all too familiar with… As a kid, I could NOT spell that damn word to save my life. Always finding a way to add a random “Z” somewhere, and probably a few extra vowels too. Lord help me! (and my poor mom aka teacher)

In our household, we’ve never been a big sports family, but we have managed to be a fairly active one! Hikes on every vacation, walks down to the city park, and bike rides along the trails, to name a few. I must credit my parents though. Always being good examples of staying motivated and treating physical activity as a fun part of life, as opposed to a horrendous chore that we all dread.

While a fast metabolism runs in my blood, I know deep down that it won’t last me forever *sigh*. AND since food is my ultimate weakness, I recognize the fact that I have to try to stay somewhat balanced where I can. Which is where working out comes to play! (I know, I know, try to contain your excitement.)

Now, I am in no way a professional in this field, and I promise not to make you go run 11 miles and do burpees until you puke. Truthfully, I’m not 100% sure how to even write about it–but I am quite passionate about the benefits, and I can’t keep it to myself. In more ways than one, exercise has helped me in my day-to-day life and I want to be able to share that with as many people as I can. Even if this comes across as choppy and weird. Please stick with me! I promise there’s always a point to my rambles, one way or another.

I like to think of exercise as a celebration of what your body can do. Not a punishment.

Too often we tend to treat clean eating and staying fit as something we force ourselves to do. A vain egotistical process to “show off” or “look good”. But it is so so much more than that! By simply doing a 30 minute pilates video on YouTube (highly recommend checking out Blogilates btw) each day, the difference in my overall feeling is insane… I sleep better. My anxiety is at an all time low. I feel physically strong and much more confident. It’s such a difference that I notice almost immediately! (equally noticing when I have been too lax and skimping on my routine)

Staying on top of a strict schedule has never ever been my strong suit. I won’t lie, I skip days. I go too hard on some days. I eat too much junk food or some days, not much at all. But for me, the thing that has made the biggest difference is MY MIND SET. If I’m being a hard-ass and making myself feel guilty for missing a workout, or eating a cinnamon roll at the Ground A Bout, then instantly the whole mood is ruined. I no longer feel motivated and empowered. I feel angry and disappointed.

I think so much of it has to do with ultimately giving ourselves grace and knowing our personal limits. Our bodies are absolutely incredible and we should be so lucky to have the possibility to treat them with the respect they deserve. Fall in love with taking care of yourself; both your mind and body. Because YOU DESERVE IT. YOU’VE EARNED IT. AND YOU ARE WORTH IT. Success is a series of small wins, and every step you take makes a difference. If you get tired, learn to rest not to quit. I believe so much in you. We’ve got this, bro. One day at a time.

Until next time,

Stay strong, darling!
