Thankful? Grateful? Blessed?

It’s not JOY that makes us GRATEFUL. It’s GRATITUDE that makes us JOYFUL.

Each year, we enter this holiday season with expectations of all kinds. Whether it be the hectic travel plans, the hustle and bustle of last minute shopping, or the stress of cooking… Life can quickly become chaos before our very eyes. Even when we convince ourselves that “this time will be different” it always seems to sneak up on us doesn’t it? One time or another, we’ll probably find things not going exactly our way, causing us to overreact and be discontent. Feeling the exact OPPOSITE of what this time is meant to be all about!

I always laugh at the irony of spending a whole day dedicated to our loved ones and being thankful for the many many blessings in our life…and less than 24 hours later, we’re scrambling out to the stores to buy more more things! Now, do not take this the wrong way–Black Friday is my shit. Every year, me and my momma prep our lists and head out until the wee hours of the morning. Crossing things off and gift shopping for our very favorite people. But to me, we don’t treat it as such a “we have to”, but more of a “we get to”. We get to spend that annual quality time with just the two of us. Our love language is for sure GIVING, so taking this special day to go and excitedly pick things out for each person is so so fun to us. (don’t judge, k?)

Of course it can be easy to get so caught up in the commercialized traditions, but when you really take a moment to assess your situation, you quickly become aware of just how much you do have. Even the smallest of things matter. So let’s treat this Thanksgiving as a celebration of our many joys we are so lucky to have. Small things, big things, and everything in between. Because you and I both know, the silly “mess ups” along the way always make for the best stories later. So don’t be so hard on yourself this season. Don’t take things for granted. And always remember the true precious words (from that decorative sign you probably all have in your house, from Hobby Lobby) we are THANKFUL, GRATEFUL, AND BLESSED. Always.

Until next time,

Stay thankful, darling!
