“At the heart of every family tradition is a meaningful experience.” Oh how true this is to me! Family traditions (especiallyyy around the holidays) are my absolute favorite. Each year brings it’s very own memories, but it just wouldn’t be the same without our annual festivities! And if you’ve been around for a while, you know we have quite a few of them…
When I think of the Christmas season, my mind instantly flashes back to times with my family. Of course we’ve had our fair share of difficult holidays (we are only human). But when all is said and done, if we got to spend quality time with one another, THAT is all that could matter to me! All the other stuff is trivial in comparison. Forget the gifts, the random fights, or the unpredictable weather… Getting to make new memories, with the ones I love more than life itself, is what it’s all about.
Here I will share with you some of my most favorite Laws House traditions!
- ELF ON THE SHELF. I think there was maybe one year that my mom actually ran the whole thing without our interference. But once we figured out the truth behind “Berry” the elf, we took it upon ourselves! Me and my 3 siblings would take turns each night, setting up new creative ideas to surprise the others with. It was so stupid, but so much fun!
- DECEMBER 23RD aka “Christmas Adam” (you know, because Adam comes before Eve haha) we each get a brand new pair of pajamas, Grandma comes over, and we all sit together to watch It’s A Wonderful Life! (I could write a whole post on this movie alone)
- CINNAMON ROLLS! Growing up, Mom would make giant gooey cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning breakfast. A few years ago, I took over the title as “head-roll-baker” and it’s so special to me. An affair we all look forward to every single year!
- GIVING. As a family, we have always liked incorporating new ways to give back. Whether it be Operation Christmas Child…a local cause like Grace Case Youth…or the Giving Tree at church. Taking the time to help support others during this special time, is the best way to warm hearts and spread the much needed love.
Traditions are the glue that stick us together. Giving us a sense of belonging and comfort that we so desperately crave. Feeling important, and excited. Teaching us values and the true meaning of quality time. It’s part of our culture and our heritage, and I can’t wait to one day celebrate shiny new traditions with my very own family. 🙂
What traditions do YOU have? Any special activities that make the season just perfect!? I would loveee to know!
Until next time,
Stay creating memories, darling!
