Socrates said, “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” Repeatedly tearing down our minds and bodies does not heal the wounds, it only deepens them. When we take the time to commit ourselves to change and growth, we will become stronger. It’s so much easier said than done, but it truly begins in OUR hearts & OUR minds first. When we believe in ourselves, others will too! Your possibilities are endless, but only if you take action to accomplish them. And trust me, I KNOW YOU CAN!
To be honest, telling you that I talk to myself isn’t necessarily my proudest moment, but it can actually be quite beneficial, so don’t run off just yet! If I can proudly admit to embarrassing myself, surely you can too. Will you look a little silly? Probably. Will it feel a little awkward? Totally. Who cares!? You don’t have to do it in public, and no one even has to know! But when you begin speaking truth to yourself, it’ll eventually become second-nature. Even if that means starting in your bedroom and audibly telling yourself positive things. Give yourself grace and trust this confusing process of self-healing. Learn to love everything about yourself, the big and the small! If at the end of the day, you’re doing the very best you can, that’s all that matters.
Words of affirmation are incredibly under-appreciated in my opinion. You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to others! So stop apologizing for who you are, and start appreciating what you’re capable of. Sure, words can only get us so far, but they’re a damn good place to start! And lucky for us, we were graced with over a million to choose from! (don’t worry, I’ll help you narrow it down)
Let’s clear a few things up first–affirmations are not about “I MIGHT…I SHOULD…I WANT…I’M NOT…” They’re about “I AM…” Google says that affirmations are simply “positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts.” You have to decide to choose yourself even when others choose not to. Just think of how much information our brains absorb each day! We need to be aware and intentional with what we give our minds, and ultimately training ourselves to believe as truth. So why not do that with happiness and purpose!? Lord knows we could all use more of it.
Now that we have a mutual understanding for affirmations as a whole, let’s get started! No time like the present! I want you to get up and go to a mirror, yes I mean right now… Look at yourself. Do you see that beautiful ass human right there, staring back at you? Think of how much they’ve been through… Think about how strong they are. No matter what has happened to them this far, they’re still standing here… Fighting for you. They haven’t let you down. Maybe life hasn’t always been smooth sailing, but they’ve held you through it all… Now I want you to look into their eyes, and tell them that you love them. That you’re proud. That you deserve to be happy. Because it’s true, you ARE ENOUGH.
Your journey is not for anyone else, and it is not to be compared. We’re all on this ride together. We’re all figuring it out. We’re all learning to simply love ourselves each and every day. One step at a time, that’s all it takes. Just please don’t give up. Don’t give up on that brave person in the mirror. They’ll be thankful you didn’t. I’ll be thankful you didn’t.
Since I know personally how overwhelming this can be, I wanted to make it as simple as possible. My little sister, Trinity, and I created some POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS just for you! We wanted to use colors that brought joy, words that brought encouragement, and a peace to help you feel safe. No one ever said life would be easy, but it will be worth it! So if you’re ready to take the very first step in your self-love journey, let’s do this! I’m coming along too, because I really really need to work on taking my own advice.
Here are 7 of my favorite daily affirmations! I’d love for you to save them to your phone and even set them as your lock screen! (just hold down the picture, and click “add to photos”) Share them on your story, or message them to a friend who needs to hear it–whatever your heart desires! Just don’t forget to read them to yourself, read them over and over until eventually you believe in your heart that it’s true. Remember that you’re moving forward, creating a routine, and working on this FOR YOU. It’ll take time and lots of practice…and that’s OKAY!
Until next time,
Love yourself, darling!
