Be Kind

“In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND.” Such a basic quote with such powerful words, am I right? I’m sure you’ve seen in the headlines about Caroline Flack passing away on Saturday… I didn’t know much about her personally, nor am I coming here to make this a controversial conversation; but hearing the news really hit something deep inside of me. I saw an article that spoke about her retweeting that quote along with the movement #BeKind. My heart broke when I read that… Sadly, Caroline took her own life last weekend, because she was hurting. Hurting so deeply inside, yet even in her time of pain, she wanted the world to shed light on each other. Sparking an uproar across social media about kindness, and encouraging others to do the same.

Reality is, people are hurting every single day. People are grieving, or they’re scared, they’re desperate for help, but sometimes they don’t know how to ask for it. And the very very least we can do is BE KIND to them! Truth is, we will never know the full story of someone’s life. What their private struggles are, whether it be the past, present, or future. So in any given moment, no matter our biases or our opinions, our responsibility as humans is to love. And to hopefully be one to spark even a sliver of light back into their life. What happens behind closed doors, off of social media, in their hearts, that’s their business, and we must respect that.

KINDNESS is loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weaknesses. The best part is, it’s so so easy! Kindness is truly contagious and makes us feel so good when we know we’re helping someone else. Never ever underestimate the power of a kind word to someone who needs it the most! We may not even notice that it’s helping, but trust me, it’s not ever wasted.

Like Aibileen Clark said in The Help, “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”

Remember that, share that, embrace that. Because you ARE! So with that being said, I’m going to challenge you… Tomorrow, I want you to speak KINDNESS into 3 people. It can be with your actions, your words, a simple favor or compliment. However you feel necessary, I need you to do that for me. 3 people. Start there–and then just keep going… Our world needs as much positivity as it can get, so spread that kindness like frosting on a cake, baby! It could change your life, and better yet, it could change someone else’s.

Until next time,

BE KIND, darling!
